You have some valid points. I think the use of the term “defund the police” was problematic. I interviewed a BLM activist who said he wanted to “abolish the police.” I’m no fan of the police, but I realize they are necessary. That was bad branding. I think a lot of people on the left have no idea about branding and marketing.

But I have to push back on some points you made. Yes, the Dems may have lost the working class. But that’s because they’ve been bamboozled. The working class goes for wedge issues such as guns and gays and gets screwed over. What has the GOP ever done for working-class people? The GOP is in favor of union busting, outsourcing, driving down wages and cutting benefits.

I also doubt that the Dems have lost the middle class. And as for the 401K issue, the economy did better under Obama. And there was more at stake than just money in the last election. Trumpists don’t believe in democracy. They’re currently trying to overturn the voice of the people!
