Trump’s Fake Immigration Ban is Just Another Reality Show Plot Twist

President Wants to Appeal to His Racist Base, Distract from Coronavirus Debacle

Ian Masters, host of “Background Briefing,” often uses the phrase “government by stunt” to describe Donald Trump’s presidency. This is a term borrowed from Russia where autocrat Vladimir Putin often uses the same tactic. Instead of actually doing real policy work, Putin stages a photo op of him hunting bears as a way of distracting the press and the populace.

Since Trump has a servile relationship with Putin, he’s copied this behavior. This was seen yesterday evening when the president announced he was suspending immigration to the United States through an executive order.

Whether this was legal or how this was going to be implemented was never explained. Trump never considered that a quarter of healthcare workers are immigrants, how the ban would split families or how the agriculture industry is dependent on migrant labor.
