Trump Has Created an Army of Unelectable ‘MAGA Mutants’
Extremist candidates support conspiracy theories, white nationalism
I’ve always said that the rise of former President Donald Trump was like the tale of Frankenstein. Instead of rejecting the monstrous Trump, the GOP thought they could control him. But just like in the Mary Shelley story, the monster got out of control and now Trumpism runs the GOP.
But now Trumpism has gotten out of control of Trump himself. And this is seen in the Republican primaries. In Pennsylvania, television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz is locked in a dead heat with hedge fund executive David McCormick in the primary race for a senate seat. Oz is a snake oil-peddling television doctor who has been denounced by his own university. He also has spent little time in Pennsylvania and is trying to pass himself off as a blue-collar, gun-toting, everyman. Oz is worth about $500 million.
Trumpism Run Amok
Far right-wing talk show host Kathy Barnette, an African American, came in a distant third in the primary. However, Barnette is a great example of Trumpism running amok. She was so far-right, that many Republicans hoped she lost because they doubted she could win a general election.
