Lionel Richie’s autobiography Truly is a wonderful book that encompasses his almost 50 years in the entertainment business. The book is full of great stories about his life in entertainment and traveling the world, where he gets to meet the who’s who of American entertainment royalty, such as Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Elizabeth Taylor, Gregory Peck, and Prince. Richie details his journey from a painfully shy, unfocused country boy — he later discovers he has ADHD — to a global superstar.

History Runs in the Family

Throughout the story, Richie touches upon his connection to major moments in American history. His grandmother lived to the ripe old age of 103 and met civil rights icon Booker T. Washington. Richie also tells some tragic stories about the Vietnam era and how he saw many of his friends and colleagues go off to Vietnam and come back in body bags. One of his friends lasted a mere two weeks.
