Thousands of Protesters Flood Downtown Riverside For Anti-Trump Protests
Protests spurred by anti-immigrant raids
Throngs of angry marchers flooded several blocks of downtown Riverside on Saturday for the local “No Kings” protest. It was just one of about 2,000 anti-Trump protests around the country that attracted millions of people.
The protests were also energized by President Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant policies that have outraged many people, especially in the Mexican-American community.
The Department of Homeland Security and ICE have started rounding up undocumented immigrants and even legal residents. In many cases, agents are entering homes and arresting people without warrants. ICE agents are also arresting people at schools, courts, churches and places of business.
A huge crowd of people marched through traffic in the downtown area. And the foot traffic was so heavy that it stopped cars from moving. There didn’t seem to be a heavy police presence, but officers waited at a closed freeway ramp a few blocks away.
The event was organized by several political activist groups, including Indivisible, and was significantly larger than the previous protest.
