President Donald Trump’s recent attempt to overturn the election results has all the elements of Trumpism. Blatant lies, gaslighting, projection, alternative truth, authoritarianism and a rogues’ gallery of bottom feeders.

Some in the media have acted shocked at Trump’s blatant attempt at authoritarianism, but too many Americans are blasé about the recent events. The president of the United States just attempted to cancel the results of the election and was urged to use the military to back up his plan. But who would have been commander-in-chief while the new election was held? I’m betting Trump would have stayed in the White House while we held a do over.

Trump’s attempted coup

It’s shocking but not surprising that Trump attempted to do this. America ventured into Third World country territory long ago, so I wasn’t surprised that Trump tried to overstay his time in the White House. What’s surprising is that millions of people still believe his lies. The president of the United States has told more than 20,000 lies in office and is known for distorting the truth. At this stage, I expect half of what comes out of his mouth to be untrue.
