Republicans Want to Bury Trump Coup Because the Truth is Damning

MAGA insurrection creates an inconvenient truth

From watching ex-President Donald Trump’s second impeachment proceedings, it seems that Democrats are building a solid case to show the former president organized an attack on his own government. They plan to use witnesses, past statements, cell phone metadata and video recordings to prove their case.

“His conduct endangered the life of every single member of Congress, jeopardized the peaceful transition of power and line of succession, and compromised our national security,” according to impeachment papers filed by Democratic House members. “This is precisely the sort of constitutional offense that warrants disqualification from federal office.”

Unfortunately, I doubt that will amount to anything. Republicans are digging in their heels and setting the stage for the worst case of jury nullification in American history.

According to Lincoln Mitchell, a professor of political science at Columbia University, Republicans don’t want the information to come out because the truth would be too shocking and potentially damaging to the party.
