JD Vance Was Honest about Trump — Until He Ran for Office

Former venture capitalist goes MAGA, embraces white nationalism, conspiracy theories

Most politicians usually get elected to office before they reveal how dishonest they are. (I’m thinking about Sen. Krysten Sinema (D-Ariz.)) But JD Vance, the Republican candidate who recently won the Ohio primary for a Senate seat, has already revealed his amorality. If he gets elected; buyer beware.

In the not-too-distant past, Vance portrayed himself as a moderate Republican. Vance has an interesting background. He grew up in hardscrabble Middleton, Ohio, joined the Marines, served in Iraq and then went to Yale law school on the G.I. bill. He later made his fortune in Silicon Valley as a venture capitalist.

After that, he wrote “Hillbilly Elegy,” a book about his upbringing and the problems he faced growing up in a small, rural town. He also wrote the book to explain why Democrats don’t get Middle America. And Vance was a critic of former President Donald Trump and his rise to power.

According to a former roommate, Vance called Trump an “American Hitler.” He also criticized the GOP for maligning Black Americans.
