If Republicans Stick With Trump, He’ll Lead Them to Their Doom
Former president remains popular in GOP but loathed by rest of the country
It may be too early to talk about the 2024 presidential race, but I see a problem looming for the GOP. And that problem is former President Donald Trump.
While Trump is still wildly popular with the GOP base, he’s toxic to the rest of the country. An Economist/YouGov poll showed 82 percent of Republicans had a favorable view of Trump!
But many Republicans’ opinions are not grounded in reality. They don’t believe in global warming. They think Critical Race Theory is destroying public education, even though most can’t define it. They also believe evolution is an affront to God and are generally science averse.
It’s no wonder Covid-19 is ravaging red states where people refuse to wear masks or get the coronavirus vaccine. Many Republicans don’t believe the disease is real until they’re on a ventilator.
Delusional devotion
Their belief in Trump is much the same. While the rest of the country, and the world, was horrified by Trump’s corruption, mendacity, racism and sexism, Republican voters loved him.
