Here’s Why I Still Use Facebook

Social media giant is almost too big to ignore

Facebook is the biggest social media company in the world, with about 2.3 billion users. Unfortunately, it’s also a problematic company that seems to get a new black eye every week.

A few days ago, I read that the Rohingya, an ethnic group from Myanmar, has launched a $150 billion lawsuit against Facebook for facilitating ethnic cleansing.

“Lawyers filed a class-action lawsuit Monday in California against Facebook parent Meta Platforms, saying Facebook’s arrival in Myanmar helped spread hate speech, misinformation and incitement to violence that ‘amounted to a substantial cause, and eventual perpetuation of, the Rohingya genocide,’” said The Associated Press.

Facebook likes to play fast and loose with privacy. As the old saying goes, there are no free lunches in life. And Facebook operates on the same principles. Ostensibly Facebook is free. There is no charge to use it, but there are hidden costs. You sign up for Facebook, and give them all your data; your address, age, race, and even your phone number.
