Gabbard Says America Can’t Be World’s Cop
Longshot presidential Democratic presidential Rep. Tulsi Gabbard recently addressed a group of journalists from the ethnic media. During the meeting, she talked about growing up in multicultural Hawaii and enjoying the “aloha spirit.” Gabbard is of Samoan and European descent and practices the Hindu religion.
She also spent the main part of the call discussing her views on foreign policy.
Gabbard is a veteran who served in the Hawaiian National Guard and so she has personal experience of the costs of America’s foreign adventures. Gabbard served as a combat medic in Iraq.
She added that she wanted to draw back the US military and avoid getting involved with so many foreign conflicts.
“We have to end the US policy of being the world’s police,” said Gabbard.
She added that US interventions and regime changes often make things worse. The US occupation of Afghan is reaching 20 years and has failed to achieve a decisive victory. The US invasion of Iraq splintered the country, caused a mass exodus and also led to the rise of ISIS.
Gabbard said she was in favor of using diplomacy to solve international conflict — even if that meant talking to enemies.
