Fox News, Right-Wing Media Trying to Make Brittney Griner Public Enemy №1
WNBA player caught in partisan media fight
The return of Brittney Griner, sentenced to a Russian labor camp for possessing a small amount of cannabis oil, should be seen as a moment for all Americans to celebrate. Unfortunately, we live in an environment of extreme partisanship. These days. even the truth gets divided by party loyalty. Many right-wingers still don’t “believe in” the Covid-19 virus, even though it killed more than 1 million Americans!
That’s why, instead of celebrating the release of an American from a Russian gulag, a large section of the country, driven on by right-wing propaganda, is being primed to see Griner as public enemy #1.
Many right-wingers are upset Griner is coming home before Paul Whelan, an American who has been in Russian jail longer than her. Others are upset that the US put in any effort to bring her back.
At this stage, we shouldn’t be surprised, but, some of the commentary coming from the far-right media is blatantly racist. Of course, the worst is coming from Fox News Channel, and their resident neo-Nazi propagandist Tucker Carlson.
