Several experts recently warned Californians about the danger of excessive heat. The experts gave the address during a recent press conference organized by Ethnic Media Services and California’s Office of Community Partnerships and Strategic Communications (OCPSC.)

OCPSC has launched a $20 million “Heat Ready California” campaign to warn of the dangers of excessive heat.

Like the rest of America, California is currently seeing record temperatures. These have been accompanied by fires in some parts of the state. However, the extreme heat is not just confined to the United States, it’s worldwide. In the Middle East, temperatures are getting up to 152 degrees.

UCLA Professor V. Kelly Turner stated that California’s situation is exacerbated by the prevalence of “heat islands.” These are areas where asphalt is more prevalent than shade and green space.
