The second day of the World Cup produced more shocks and surprises. One of the biggest surprises was England, usually a slow starter, roaring into a great start by defeating Iran 6–2. Iran started the game not under the best circumstances.

The country is currently going through an uprising as women-led protesters fight back against the religious police, who have killed several women. And because of that, the Iranian team refused to perform their national anthem during the opening ceremonies. When has that ever happened before?

Iran ran into more problems a few minutes later when goalkeeper Ali Beiranvand was injured in a collision with one of his defenders. The collision left him bloodied and confused for about 10 minutes. He eventually had to be replaced.

Iran Slumps, England Soars

While Iran was struggling with its mishaps, the England team got into the game. Both fullbacks, Kieran Trippier and Luke Shaw, looked adventurous, making runs up and down the wings.

England came into the World Cup with a strong squad, even though the team has been going through a series of poor performances. But the team got it together on the night and they looked eager to test the replacement keeper.
