Elon Musk’s Rants Make Him Just the Latest ‘Toxic Techie’

Elon Musk (Maurizio Pesce)

I have to admit that I’m a technophile. I was an early user of the smartphone, I got my first BlackBerry in 2007. I’m also a heavy social media user. For a while, I briefly worked for a startup in Silicon Valley. I used to look at tech as a brave new world full of open-minded people who were pushing the boundaries.

However, I’ve changed my mind in recent years. While the tech world may create great new products, these products come along with their own new set of problems.

I’ve also noticed that many of the lauded tech entrepreneurs, such as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, don’t have liberal values. Their values lean toward the right. Apparently some Silicon Valley denizens seem to be libertarians (sociopaths favorite political system) and have no regard for the larger society. Even worse, some of them are dabbling in a form of techno-fascism which embraces racism and sexism.
