We live in strange times. It was obvious Donald Trump and his Russian allies deployed information warfare as a weapon during the 2016 presidential election. But now information warfare, especially fake news, is being used as a weapon against individuals who have the temerity to challenge Trump’s erroneous opinions.
A May 7 Reason story highlighted the confession of “Diana Andrade,” a young woman who claimed to have been sexually assaulted by Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force. However, the story detailed how Andrade reached out to the magazine to confess the whole thing was a hoax. Conspiracy theorists Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman had paid her to concoct the story.
