Crump Lawsuit Accuses Wells Fargo of Discriminating Against Black Customers

Benjamin Crump, the trial attorney who became famous for successfully pursuing wrongful death judgments against American cities, has a new target in his sights. Last week, Crump held a press conference announcing he was pursuing legal action against Wells Fargo. Crump accused Wells Fargo of discriminating against African-American consumers in its lending practices. This includes redlining, frequent rejection of loan applications and steering customers into high-interest loans.

According to a press release from Crump’s law firm, the lawsuit was first filed in February in the Northern District of California and amended in April.

“Home ownership is the heart of the American Dream, and Wells Fargo has pushed that dream out of reach for thousands of Black Americans with their blatantly discriminatory loan practices,” said Crump. “Just as we’ve cried out against policing practices that kill Black lives, so we denounce Wells Fargo’s racially motivated banking practices that kill Black opportunity.”
