Chris Rock Turns Pain into Blisteringly Funny Comedy Special

Comedian takes on the Smiths, royal family, Jan. 6

Comedian Chris Rock’s comedy special, which dropped on Netflix last Sunday, must have touched a nerve because almost a week later, debate is still raging. I‘ve seen the special debated on NPR, CNN and covered in Variety and Rolling Stone. Both Rock and Netflix must be happy at all the free media. However, Rock special is divisive. People either love it or hate it.

I fall into the pro-Rock camp. I found this special to be brilliant, biting and hilarious. In the piece, Rock touches on cancel culture, Meghan Markle, the Kardashians, Jan. 6, and the elephant in the room, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett and the slap.

I laughed hard through many of the jokes, which were very incisive.

  • Rock said that Markle shouldn’t have been surprised by the racism she encountered from the English royal family. He said they were the OGs of racism…
