Black Trump Voters Bought Into the Image, Not The Man

African-American MAGA fans ignore Trump’s incompetence, racism

The Daily Beast recently featured an article about black men who voted for Trump. Although Trump is overwhelmingly unpopular in the black community, about 15 percent of black men voted for him.

In my experience, black male Trump voters seem to suffer from a form of cognitive dissonance. They’ve bought into the idea of Trump, and not the reality.

I remember watching a YouTube focus group where a black man said he liked Trump because he saw him ordering people around on “The Apprentice” and thought he could get things done. I used to have a black friend who said that he liked Trump because of his “leadership.” Oh you mean, the guy who lost a billion dollars and has never led a public company?

But if you dig into The Daily Beast article you find the same kind of illogical reasoning. Take Desmond Grant, one of the men interviewed in the piece. This was his reasoning for sticking with Trump.
