Media expert confirms worst suspicions about GOP

“Moscow” Mitch McConnell congratulated President-elect Joe Biden after Russian leader Vladimir Putin (Gage Skidmore/Wikipedia)

Last week, Senate leader Mitch McConnell finally admitted that Joe Biden won the election. It took him almost four weeks to do this. But “Moscow Mitch” only made that statement after Russian leader Vladimir Putin acknowledged Biden’s win. I said half-joking, after all, Putin is the de-facto head of the Republican Party. McConnell had to wait until the boss made the first move.

Putin’s GOP

According to a recent Daily Beast column by Julia Davis, that statement is shockingly close to the truth. Davis, who also speaks Russian and Ukrainian, makes some of the best observations about Russian media and propaganda. However…

Jim Jones Killed 900 People; Trump Has Killed 300K So Far

Maskless Proud Boys, violent Trump supporters, rampaged through Washington, D.C. last weekend. The violence resulted in four stabbings. (Geoff Livingston/Flickr)

When former presidential candidate Herman Cain became infected with the coronavirus earlier this year, I began to see the similarities between the Trump cult and the Peoples Temple in Jonestown, Guyana, which caused the death of about 900 people in 1978.

Kool Aid and Anti-Maskers

During that terrible event, members of the Jonestown temple so believed in cult leader Jim Jones that they drank poisoned Kool-Aid and followed him in death. Of course, that makes no sense. How could mothers offer their children a poisoned drink? You could also ask, how could people refuse to wear a mask and put their lives in jeopardy…

Trump gave Putin exactly what he wanted

Vladimir Putin is warmly welcomed to Japan by President Donald Trump (Shealah Craighead/White House)

The disastrous Trump presidency is coming to an end as chaotic and dysfunctional as the rest of his term. Several government agencies were hit with a widespread cyberattack believed to have been generated from Russia. (The president has said nothing.) And CNN reported that Trump briefly floated the idea of refusing to leave the White House. His staff shot down that scheme. However, it would have been entertaining to watch the former reality TV star frog-marched out of the White House. But Trump will probably leave for Florida over the holiday break and never return to the president’s residence.

But…

‘Sane’ Republicans sound just as unhinged as Trump cultists

Self-declared “alternate” electors are blocked from entering the Michigan Capitol and awarding electoral college votes to President Donald Trump. He lost Michigan. (Manny Otiko/YouTube screencap)

Do you ever read a piece of writing so awful it stops you in your tracks? I did this a few days ago. It was an article by syndicated columnist Mike Kelly. The column titled, “It’s time for Republicans to take back their party from the crazies,” was supposed to be a plea to Republicans to walk back from the edge and start listening to the sane voices in the party, not the Trump cultists.

I read it because I’ve been preaching a similar message. Unfortunately, as I got further into the column, I found some glaring errors. These are…

MAGA cultists’ violent protests will end badly

A participant in the Million MAGA march protests the results of the November election. (Elvert Barnes/Wikipedia)

In his book, “The Threat,” former FBI Director Andrew McCabe says that people who work in counterintelligence are always on edge. They know they always have to be right, and if they slip up once, people die. All it takes is for one error, one oversight and you have a 9/11 on your hands. And that’s what I think about when I look at ex-President Donald Trump’s attempts to incite violence against his enemies.

An army of violent cultists

The MAGA cult has been activated to seek vengeance against anyone who has wronged their Messiah. This group has been brainwashed by right-wing media and the…

Capitol attack, Facebook group indicate many Special Forces troops have declared war against U.S.

Navy SEALs

There was a time when I used to think Navy SEALS were like superheroes. they were the ultimate soldiers. These were guys who jumped out of planes and launched attacks from submarines. They were literal supermen. But over the years, I’ve begun to realize that image was cultivated by Hollywood movies such as “Navy SEALS” and “American Sniper.”

The reality is very different. From reading books and interviews about real Navy SEALS, I've learned some of them have some far-right, borderline fascist views. I read Chief Petty Officer (rtd.) Chris Kyle’s book “American Sniper,” which is a lot different from…

‘Together’ commemorates Sandra Bland, George Floyd

Sir Dolla (Facebook)

In recent years, hip-hop music had a reputation for focusing on guns, drugs and glitz. But that may be changing as the United States is currently facing a time of political upheaval and racial violence. One of the rappers who has decided to tackle police violence in his music is Louisiana-bred rapper Sir Dollar. Sir Dolla has already shared the stage with hip-hop legends such as Snoop Dogg and E-40. His latest song is “Money.” Another single, “Together” talks about Black murder victims such as George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Sandra Bland. His music combines West Coast and Southern rap…

USC domestic terrorism expert compares former president to Al-Qaeda preacher

I never realized the danger of propaganda until Jan. 6, when I saw Americans rampaging through the Capitol tearing down their government. Who needs missiles and tanks to destroy America? Radicalize enough Americans, with propaganda and conspiracy theories, and they’ll do the job for you. Trump used weaponized disinformation to destroy opponents. And the former president and several others Republicans also helped spread Russian disinformation designed to destabilize America. However, Dr. Errol Southers raised an interesting point in a recent conversation I had with him. Southers is a former police officer and FBI agent, who has investigated domestic terrorist groups…

‘Great Replacement’ conspiracy theory has been tied to previous massacres

Tucker Carlson (Gage Skidmore/Flickr)

Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson using neo-Nazi rhetoric is nothing new. He’s been doing that for years. So, when his latest promotion of the “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory hit the airwaves, I shrugged. (The theory suggests Jews are deliberately replacing white people with People of Color from developing countries.) I said, Tucker Carlson saying something racist isn’t news, call me when he’s fired.

But his recent statement has the potential to become dangerous. It was bad enough that Carlson repeated a neo-Nazi conspiracy theory, but now it’s been parroted by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) Johnson is a frequent regurgitator of…

Devine: Putin Sees U.S. as ‘Implacable Enemy’

Russian President Vladimir Putin (World Economic Forum/Flickr)

According to retired CIA officer Jack Devine, we are in the midst of a second Cold War. Devine gave his opinions about world politics, espionage and military action in a recent seminar hosted by Network 2020. His latest book is “Spymaster’s Prism: The Fight Against Russian Aggression.” Devine, who served in Afghanistan and Chile, said that we are now operating in a different intelligence world than during the Cold War. He said back in those days, there were a set of guidelines they referred to as “Moscow Rules.” Back then, both sides adhered to an unwritten code. Some of the…
